Brief
According to a recent report, 60% of the global population, i.e., 4.7 billion people, are online. Our digital world is estimated to be 44 zettabytes, with no risk of unavailable storage thanks to cloud computing.
The proliferation of Information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices affects our broader ecosystem, especially with the uptake of remote working, digital services, e-government services, e-commerce, online education, and more.
As the Fourth Industrial Revolution gains more ground, we are looking at an era of intelligence and hyperconnectivity. It is predicted that by 2025, there will be 100 billion connections and 40 billion smart devices around the world.
Based on lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, more organizations worldwide will embark on digital transformation journeys, with cloud technology becoming the cornerstone of our future digital economies. This includes domains like public utilities, transportation, manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, and finance. It is predicted that by 2025, 85% of enterprise applications will be on the cloud, and data utilization rates will skyrocket to 80%.
As a leading cloud service provider, Huawei Cloud leverages the company's 30-plus years of deep expertise in the ICT sector. This enables us to provide reliable, secure, and cost-effective cloud services to empower applications, harness the power of data, and help organizations of all sizes grow in today's intelligent world.
Huawei Cloud is the world's fastest-growing major cloud service provider, launching 220+ cloud services and 210+ solutions. News agencies, social media platforms, law enforcement, automobile manufacturers, gene sequencing organizations, and financial institutions benefit significantly from Huawei Cloud. It works with 19,000+ partners and 1.6 million developers, while 4,000+ applications have been launched on the Huawei Cloud Marketplace.
Challenge
Ubiquitous connectivity presents its own unique challenges. Increasingly complex cybersecurity threats and challenges are emerging at an alarming rate as cloud services-related technologies and the wider ICT sector continue to evolve and progress. Cloud security threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated and tricky to tackle.
Against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, a nefarious cyber pandemic gripped our digital world in 2020. The year 2020 reportedly broke all records when it came to cyber breaches and cyber-attacks against organizations, government, and individuals.
As threats increase, employees are beginning to lose confidence in their organization's cybersecurity posture. 80% of senior IT and IT security leaders believe their organizations lack sufficient protection against cyberattacks despite increased IT security investments made in 2020 to deal with distributed IT and work-from-home challenges, according to IDG Research.
Phishing attacks, DDoS attacks, malware infections, and ransomware were a few of the top threats haunting every sector and industry. According to a leader in DDoS attack mitigation Qrator Labs, DDoS attacks were on the rise during 2020, with the most relentless attacks described as short and overwhelmingly intensive.
Huawei is increasingly cognizant of these security concerns and attaches high priority, through heavy investment, to technological competency, regulatory compliance, and ecosystem growth in cyber and cloud security. In addition, we work with industry leaders like Qrator Labs to ensure all our cloud customers continue to maintain strong cybersecurity postures.
Solution
In July 2021, the Middle East team of Huawei Cloud worked with Qrator Labs to onboard the Qrator DDoS Protection service onto the Huawei Cloud Marketplace.
Qrator DDoS Protection is a flexible cloud service for traffic filtering that is designed to detect and effectively mitigate the attacks targeting customer's web infrastructure on all network layers. Qrator DDoS mitigation system employs custom algorithms for traffic analysis, filtering and machine learning which are being constantly updated and expanded in order to be able to counter the latest threats appearing in the global network. The cloud service is based on a set of filtering nodes placed within the platforms of main broadband providers across the globe: North America, South America, Asia, MENA, Western and Eastern Europe. This node-based distributed network is designed to operate in the conditions of extreme load, so the attacks targeting the web resources of one Qrator customer will not affect the performance of other protected services.
Alexander Lyamin, CEO of Qrator Labs, said: "Huawei Cloud is a leading global cloud provider, and we've witnessed first-hand how it has successfully penetrated the Middle East market. We firmly believe that working together brings better results overall. We're proud to be included in the Huawei Cloud Marketplace."
"As a leading managed security service provider, Qrator Labs values its partnership with Huawei Cloud as it allows us to tap into their growing regional and global database of customers. The amount and the intensity of DDoS attacks will only increase. Therefore, almost every resource on the internet should be under some mitigation in case it gets targeted, and Qrator Labs filtering service is one of the most robust solutions in the market today," Alexander Lyamin.
Customer Value
Benefits of Qrator DDoS Protection include:
- Uninterrupted availability of an Internet resource under protection
- Qrator filtering network is a solution accessible for almost every business, starting with SMB and ending with Enterprises
- ~3000Gbps of bandwidth dedicated to DDoS attacks mitigation
- The time needed for the network to learn on a newly connected customer - less than 2 hours
- Time to mitigate DDoS attack - from 30 seconds to 3 minutes
- Added latency when proxying traffic – 0 to 100ms. In case HTTP traffic comes through the proxy, due to the use of persistent HTTP connections with your protected service there is a possibility of improving latency
- No limitation of the number of services or data centers under protection.
